Afro Funk
AVANT CARD ARTIST PROJECT

Afro Funk is a mixed-media and digital portrait created in 2016 and selected by Avant Card for its national Artist Project. The artwork was reproduced as an edition of 10,000 postcards and distributed across Australia, translating the original layered portrait into a widely circulated printed work.

Built through layers of digital painting, photographic elements, drawn marks and ink-like textures, Afro Funk combines portraiture with an expressive graphic language. The image moves between representation and abstraction, with colour, pattern and texture forming an integral part of the portrait.

Distribution
ART MADE TO CIRCULATE.
Distributed through Avant Card’s national network, the postcard transformed the artwork into something portable, accessible and designed to circulate outside conventional exhibition spaces.
The project extended a single image into a physical edition that could be encountered, collected and taken away.
